    East Street, Rhayader

Learn about your local Fossils, and then draw them! No artistic ability required - support, materials and refreshments provided.

Dr Joe Botting is currently a Guest Scientist at Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology but spends most of the year performing independent research on the “Builth Inlier” – a fossilised volcanic island sequence preserved in the area between Builth, Llandrindod and Llandegley. This area has more varied evidence of Silurian creatures than anywhere else in the world, including over 15 species of unique sponges and sea cucumbers. Geology in Radnorshire is unique, and the best place to study some aspects of the fossil record. Dr Joe Botting will bring examples of fossils and rock to examine and interact with.

Suitable for ages 12 & up.

The drawing session is led by talented local artist Sorell Matei who is warm, supportive and will help you create something you love.

We will do a few warm-up exercises before diving into a longer session, so you can experiment around. No previous knowledge necessary! You will surprise yourself by the end of the day. You will be supported as you create something wonderful to take home.
