Our Dial A Ride scheme provides in-town transport to all local residents. Our drivers are always on hand to take you to:
- The shops & post office
- Luncheon Club
- Well-Being Club
- Surgery or dentist
- Community Nursery
- Under 5’s and Cylch Meithrin playgroups
- In fact anywhere in Rhayader and surrounding areas!
It is available to any resident of Rhayader who has an unmet need for local transport. Members pay a yearly subscription (£19 in 2015) and a “fares” fee per trip, currently £3 a round trip for those living within 3 miles of the centre of Rhayader and 45p a mile for further afield.
This scheme mainly provides transport for hospital and other health-care appointments. Other journeys (shopping/visiting etc) may be provided at our discretion. Transport is available to residents living in Rhayader and the postcode of LD6, and journeys may be of any distance, weekdays and weekends. It is for people do not qualify for non-emergency patient transport (NEPT), who cannot drive themselves, or do not have family or friends who are able to drive them to their appointment.
As well as supporting our Dial A Ride journeys, our 15 seater minibus is goes on regular members trips throughout the year. Popular destinations include Hereford, Aberaeron, Ebbw Vale, and Carmarthen. Passengers are picked up from home in the mornings, and returned safely to their doors once back in town.
Our minibus is also available to hire to all non-profit making & voluntary organisations based in Rhayader & District. A small membership fee and mileage cost enables groups to access out-of-town destinations – our minibus is Rhayader’s Community Bus!
We are in need of a new minibus as ours is getting old and tired. Look out for fundraising activities and any donation, however small, will be welcome.
Weekend Wheels and Meals
Weekends can be very lonely for people who live on their own and have very little social contact. A new project has been devised to pick people up using our volunteer community car drivers to take them out for lunch to local venues, attend church or chapel, a community event or a trip to a film or theatre matinee. There are many possibilities to develop a programme of activities and we can then arrange transport and volunteer support where required tailored to the needs of an individual or group.
